"Just follow my lead. I won't let anything happen to you."

Hideyoshi Toyotomi (豊臣 秀吉, Toyotomi Hideyoshi) is a warlord and romanceable character in both the Japanese and English versions of Ikémen Sengoku. He also appeared in the anime, titled Ikemen Sengoku : Toki wo Kakeru Koi Ga Hajimaranai, and is voiced by Kohsuke Toriumi.

Appearance

Hideyoshi's eyes are a light brown- the same shade as his hair. He is said to look kind and approachable when compared to the other warlords. His smile is described as a sunshine on winter day by the main character.

Personality

He's honest, positive, kind, and a perfect gentleman. He's everyone's big brother, and castle mom. He loves to take care of people and micromanaging everybody's tasks, but he often forgets to take care of himself. Though, not to the same extent of his vassal, Mitsunari Ishida.

According to the other warlords, he's the towns flirt. He has his own fan club, who frequently send him letters before important battles (most of them presumably love letters). Women are said to swoon at him because of both his kindness and good looks.

However, beneath his polite and personable exterior, Hideyoshi's personality is much deeper. He quickly becomes loyal to anyone that can earn his respect, particularly when it comes to matters surrounding Nobunaga Oda. Though he is gentle and humble around others, he has very little self-love. He has strong ideals about the unfair treatment of the poor due to the class system, because of his upbringing as a commoner, and wishes to change life for the poor in Japan. He is more than willing to lay down his life for Nobunaga, as he finds his Lord and his goal to unify Japan admirable. Hideyoshi also does not like dishonesty, resulting in him not getting along well with Mitsuhide Akechi, and he likes to take care of others.

On the battlefield, Hideyoshi is fierce, strong and full of bloodlust. Nobunaga does not need to bother even raising his sword when his vassal is around, as Hideyoshi will already have disposed of the enemy.

Gameplay

At first, Hideyoshi cannot bring himself to trust you, assuming you have schemed to get closer to Nobunaga. However, when suspicion surrounding your name is cleared after you save Nobunaga's life a second time, Hideyoshi reveals a more sweet and tender side of himself, in contrast to the threatning man you had known before. He reveals he found it difficult to be so cold towards you, and was itching to help you out while you worked. The two of you grow closer and begin treating each other as siblings, but you eventually realise that's not exactly what your relationship is. Neither of you can admit you love one another, as Hideyoshi doesn't want to sadden you, knowing he could die any day. After you are kidnapped Kenshin Uesugi, he finally confesses to you how he truly feels.

Historical

In real life, he was Nobunaga Oda's Vassal. When Mitsuhide Akechi betrayed Nobunaga Oda at Honno-ji, and forced him to take his own life, Hideyoshi was the one to avenge Nobunaga's death and unite japan in his Lord's stead.

Nobunaga called him monkey because his face resembbled that of a monkey, but in the game, Nobunaga calls him this because of Hideyoshi's persistant stubborness.

Etymology

  • The name Hideyoshi means "excellent, outstanding" (秀) (hide) and "lucky, good" (吉) (yoshi).
  • Hideyoshi's surname Toyotomi means "abundant, plenty, lush" (豊) (toyo) and "retainer, subject" (臣) (tomi).
